Therapy for Chest Cough:
Post Viral Illness

Although a very common cause of coughing in the chest there may be overlap for patients having mild asthma or bronchitis. In addition the virus may irritate the respiratory tract from the voice box to the deeper bronchial tubes confusing the location as neck or chest from a diagnostic standpoint. Initially the cough may feel like it is located in the neck whereas other patients may feel a deeper cough. In general small amounts of yellow sputum are produced suggesting extensive upper respiratory irritation or lower bronchial irritation. Please review General Therapy. Specific therapy can include inhaled steroids which are effective in soothing the irritation produced by a recent viral infection.
